World of the monkey facts

Pulak Dasgupta

The relationship between monkeys and humans has been highlighted in the Hindu scriptures. The coexistence of monkeys with humans is very old. Monkeys are tailed primates that come in 264 different species. Monkeys come in a variety of shapes and sizes, ranging from small-bodied, four-ounce pygmy marmosets to giant-bodied, 119-pound mandrels. Monkeys divided in two categories.

*Old World monkeys

*New World Monkey

Old World monkeys are all members of the Cercopithecidae family, which is linked to apes and humans and is classed as a catarrhin (Latin meaning "down-nosed"). The New World Monkey belongs to the Platyrinos ("flat-nosed") family, which consists of five families.

Along with their physique and other skeletal traits, what distinguishes monkeys from monkeys? The majority of monkey species live in tropical forests and, with the exception of tropical Central and South American durukuli, are active during the day. They frequently travel in groups in search of food such as plants, bird eggs, small animals, and insects.

Monkeys are able to sit up straight, and as a result, their hands are free for many tasks. Monkeys mainly jump from tree to tree on their journeys through the woods, using both their hands and feet to catch tree stalks. On the ground, it almost never walks on two legs (bipedal) and can stand for a very short time.

Observing the social structure of monkeys implies that they are very intelligent animals and that they need socialization to improve their natural habitat.

Types of monkeys.

Here are some types of monkeys that are my favorite. Because there are so many species of monkeys in the world, I will blog about the rest later.

1) Spider Monkey :-

Description:-

There are seven subspecies of spider monkey. They are known as New World monkeys. These are often used for several lab tests. This is because they are closely related to humans, and these monkeys seem to be abundant.

Natural behaviour :-

Spider monkeys need their natural habitat. They are one of the most important spreaders of plant, flower, and fruit seeds. Without their help, it would be extremely difficult to develop such new plant sources in the forest. These monkeys live in groups of about 35 people. At the head of the group is a woman, who determines the size of the group. He does not mind raising it when there is enough food and shelter. He has to decide if the group is too big to manage and provide food for; he will divide them into smaller groups and separate them.

Anatomy

The spider monkey, with its long limbs, resembles a spider in many ways. The name came from there. They weigh up to 20 pounds. The tail is also incredibly long, and they can pick up and hold items with it.

It is one of the few monkey without a thumb. Many people are not aware of this because they believe that all monkeys have opposite thumbs. They come in different colors. These colours are often determined by what region they live in as well as what sub-species they belong to. Shades of white, gold, black, brown, orange, and red are examples of such colors.

2)Sequirrel Monkey:-

https://ibb.co/55YJdYF The squirrel monkey is so named because of its resemblance to the squirrel monkey. It is a species of monkey belonging to the New World Monkey. Monkeys of this species are found in the tropics of South America.

Natural behaviour:-

Squirrel monkeys are accustomed to organised life. A group of about 500 squirrel monkeys is formed. Social grouping and structure must be very orderly. What seems like a mess to us works pretty well for this particular type of monkey.

The whole group is very sociable and dependent on each other for security. They use different words and nonverbal cues to bond with each other. Men try to impress women, which is why they try to attract their attention.

The mating cycles of squirrels and monkeys depend on where they live. When there is plenty of food, they usually have intercourse. Women are quite selective about who they have sex with. Sometimes a whole group of women will chase a man and refuse to have sex with him.

squirrel monkeys Descendants love freedom more than any other ape species. At a young age, they are left alone or in small groups with other young people. Such activity, however, is one of the reasons why so many babies die before reaching the age of maturity.

Food habits of squirrel monkey:-

Common squirrel monkey food includes tree frogs. Insects, bugs, fruits, leaves, and pulses are also eaten. They swallow everything they can get in different places without hesitation. The squirrel monkey needs water. They also get plenty of water from the food they eat.

Conservation :- Ordinary squirrel monkeys do not seem to be at risk of extinction right now. In some areas, it is feared that their habitats may be destroyed. The good news is that monkeys have occasionally been captured as pets or for research purposes, but their numbers have not decreased significantly over the decades.

3)Pygmy marmosets :-

Pygmy marmosets are also known by many other names, such as the Pocket Monkey, the Little Lion, and the Dwarf Monkey. They are the smallest of all monkeys in the world and one of the smallest primates in the world. When fully developed, they weigh less than 5 ounces. Two sub-species are known to exist.

As pet

Pygmy marmosets have the potential to be wonderful pets. If kept with diligence, patience, and care, pygmy marmosets are great as pets.

Anatomy

They are small round in shape and look quite plump. They aren't really, but they have a natural way of magnifying things. They use this technique to avoid easy prey. They can stick to trees because of their hard nails. They have pieces of hair that can be seen with their ears on the sides of their mouths. They spread all over and get longer with the age of monkeys.

Diet and feeding practises:-

The diet of pygmy marmosets is very different from that of other species of monkeys. They consume plant sap and gum as staple foods, and can also consume plants, fruits, and insects if they do not get enough sap or gum.

You may be wondering how such a small creature can extract juice from a tree. Their sharp teeth help them pierce wood. Then they can drain the juice from the inside. They do this process very patiently, as it takes a lot of time.

Natural behaviour:-

These monkeys do not live in large groups, but have a maximum of 12 members in one group. They enjoy bonding with each other and spend all their leisure time with each other. There is a lot of grief when one of their members dies. For the most part, they are timid and get along well with each other. If necessary they can be aggressive to defend themselves or their team, they can fight to the death.

Pygmy marmoset monkeys are gregarious creatures that use voice as a means of communication. They utilise their voices to communicate, warn about danger, promote intercourse, and encourage their youth. They can make loud calls as well as quick calls to adjacent businesses. They may make loud as well as soft calls, as well as brief calls for group members who are close by and long calls for those that are further away.

The hunter

Pygmy marmosets have some predatory enemies in the natural environment. Raptors, which include eagles, hawks, and other birds of prey, are one-of-a-kind birds of prey that come to the canopy and consume. They have great eyesight and sharp nails, so it is almost impossible for them to escape and save their lives.

4)Capuchin monkey

The Capuchin monkeys are the new world monkeys. They are known as "organ grinder" monkeys. Their talents have been used in many movies and television shows.

Capuchin monkeys are South American primates found in tropical forests from Nicaragua to Paraguay. Capuchin monkeys are named after the "caps" of their hair, which resemble the cauliflower of the Capuchin monks. They are the most intelligent of the monkeys in the New World.

Capuchin monkeys, like other domesticated animals, live well in the wild and can become unhappy and aggressive in the home environment because they are usually accustomed to living in groups.

Diet

Capuchin monkeys love to eat fruits, insects, leaves, small birds, frogs, and nuts.

Nature of Capuchin monkey

They sleep during the day, so the capuchin monkeys are considered lazy. They are divided into small groups. They have a strong vocal presence. To keep animals out of their area, they strongly mark their used area with urine. In the Capuchin monkey society, men are influential and they fight among themselves for the position of leader and for the rights of the partner. Fights between men are for influence, so it is normal for groups to have new leaders.
